Volvo XC90 has been crowned Best SUV at the Fleet World Honours 2016.

  • Tax-efficient XC90 voted best SUV by panel of fleet judges
  • Seven-seat XC90 praised for its Scandinavian design, world-first safety systems and advanced connectivity
  • Diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with CO2 emissions from just 49g/km
The Volvo XC90 has been crowned Best SUV at the Fleet World Honours 2016. The prestigious award ceremony was held at the famous Royal Automobile Club in London on Tuesday 19th April 2016.
The XC90 was praised by the judges for its elegant design, luxurious and practical interior, and advanced safety and connectivity equipment.
Commenting on the XC90, the Fleet World judges said: “Spearheading Volvo’s new-generation products, the XC90 is a distinctly Scandinavian take on luxury motoring. Elegantly designed and effortlessly comfortable, it offers competitive diesel and plug-in hybrid options for fleets and features the best interior in its class. With world-first safety systems, advanced connectivity on board and near-infinite practicality, it’s a deserved winner.”
The XC90 uses Volvo’s all-new SPA platform and a range of powerful yet efficient Drive-E powertrains. These include the recently upgraded D5 diesel engine with its ground-breaking PowerPulse technology and the plug-in hybrid petrol-electric T8 Twin Engine.
PowerPulse is an innovative technology that uses compressed air to boost the engine’s responsiveness by virtually eliminating turbo lag. This helps give the performance of a much larger engine, especially at low revs. Add CO2 emissions of just 149g/km and competitively low P11D prices, and the XC90 D5 PowerPulse is a compelling choice for fleet customers.
The T8 Twin Engine combines a petrol engine with an electric motor to offer the running costs of a far smaller, less powerful car. It is capable of doing up to 27 miles in electric-only mode, offering near-silent, zero-emission travel. Its class-leading CO2 emissions of 49g/km are seriously impressive, but factor in its 100% first year write-down allowance and corporation tax relief of up to £12,720 (based on a T8 Twin Engine Inscription) and the XC90 T8 is exceptionally tax-efficient for a seven-seat SUV.
Being a Volvo, the XC90 also leads the field when it comes to safety. Among the world-first technology fitted as standard is automatic emergency braking at a junction, which applies the brakes should you turn into the course of an oncoming vehicle. Another ground-breaking safety aid is Run-off Road Protection, which includes an innovative energy-absorbing section in the front seats to help prevent spinal injuries if your car leaves the road.
Selwyn Cooper, Head of Business Sales of Volvo Car UK, said: “It’s a fantastic result for the XC90 to be voted Best SUV by such an influential title as Fleet World. The XC90’s winning combination of tax-efficiency, luxury, practicality, high-tech equipment and of course safety make it the ideal choice for all business users.”

Tesla Model S tops Driver Power 2016 with highest-ever satisfaction rating

Tesla Model S tops Driver Power 2016 with highest-ever satisfaction rating

  • Tesla Model S tops Driver Power 2016 with highest-ever satisfaction rating
  • Renault’s all-electric ZOE in second place, four hybrids in the top ten
London, 20th April 2016: British car owners who’ve taken the plunge and bought electric cars are raving about them, according to Driver Power 2016 published by Auto Express. This year’s car ownership survey – now in its 15th year – is dominated by electric and hybrid vehicles, with Tesla’s Model S taking first place in seven out of ten categories as well as the overall number one position.
The survey covers the issues that really matter to motorists with owners rating their vehicles over ten categories including reliability, running costs, practicality and in-car tech. This year, Driver Power received nearly 50,000 responses, with 32 makes and 150 models ranked.
This year’s winner, the Tesla Model S, received a highest-ever satisfaction rating of 97.46%, which included a 100% satisfaction rating in the Ease of Driving category – the first time any model has received full marks in the history of the Driver Power survey.
Brian Walters, Director of Research and Insight at Driver Power, said: “With seven individual category wins it’s hard to dispute the appeal of the Tesla. This is the first time this manufacturer has appeared in the Driver Power survey, but with results like these I’m certain we’ll see more of it in the future.
“The in-car tech has raised the bar for other manufacturers, and the growing network of rapid-charging points that are free for owners to use makes it the number one for running costs as well. The only area for concern is build quality, but if Tesla can sort this out then I think it’s going to be a tough brand to beat.”
As well as the ZOE in second place, Renault took third spot with the new Kadjar SUV. Last year’s number one brand, Lexus, took four of the top ten positions with its IS, GS and RX (marks two and three) models.
Driver Power respondents named reliability as the most important factor when buying and owning a new car, while owners of executive vehicles are the happiest with their vehicles – the Tesla Model S topped the executive class followed by the Lexus GS and Jaguar XF. And owners are generally happy with their cars as two-thirds would buy the same model again and half said they’d stick with the same manufacturer.
Full results of the Driver Power 2016 survey are available in Auto Express magazine on sale now, and atwww.autoexpress.co.uk/driverpower

  • Renault ZOE awarded Silver overall in Auto Express Driver Power awards
  • Renault Kadjar awarded Bronze overall in Auto Express Driver Power awards
  • All-electric ZOE wins Supermini category outright
  • Clio takes Bronze in Supermini category
  • Kadjar crossover voted number one in Off-road / SUV category
  • Scénic and Grand Scénic win the MPV category
Renault has achieved its best ever performance in the Auto Express Driver Power awards, announced today, with the Renault ZOE finishing in second and the All-New Renault Kadjar finishing in third overall. The all-electric ZOE, Kadjar crossover and Scénic/Grand Scénic also won the Supermini, Off-road/SUV and MPV categories respectively.
The plaudits continued for the French car manufacturer with the Clio awarded third place in the Supermini sector. The ZOE took third place for best running costs overall and was also second in the easiest to drive category. The stylish Kadjar added to its award haul with third place for ride quality overall.
The impressive results represent a major improvement for Renault vehicles in the annual awards that are determined purely by the feedback of owners and which ask them to rate their car across 10 judging categories. Nearly 50,000 owners took part in this year’s Auto Express Driver Power survey with 32 makes and 183 models ranked in what is one of the UK’s largest automotive customer satisfaction studies.
On the 100 per cent electric ZOE and family-sized Kadjar crossover finishing so highly in the annual survey, Brian Walters, Director, Research and Insights at Driver Power, said: “With the Renault ZOE the best performing supermini in terms of Running Costs; Performance; Ride Quality; Ease of Driving and In-Car Technology, it proves that superminis can excel in many judging categories long thought to be the domain of premium marques.
“Renault Kadjar has made an excellent debut in the awards. In addition to winning the Bronze Car of the Year Award and the Off Road / SUV category outright, it was also best performing SUV in Road Handling and In-Car Tech and among the top five SUVs in Running Costs, Ride Quality and Seat Comfort.”
Mark Crockett, Director of Total Customer Experience (TCE), Groupe Renault UK and Ireland, said: “This outstanding result demonstrates the progression of our vehicles and reaffirms our commitment to quality. We are delighted to have the ZOE and Kadjar in the top three overall placings and it’s especially pleasing that we have achieved such impressive rankings across the categories while also selling a record number of vehicles in the UK.
“We strive to provide customers with a class-leading product and ownership experience and this strong showing is a fantastic indicator that we are on track to achieve our GO5+ mid-term plan of a top 10 ranking in the Auto Express Driver Power survey and a top 10 global opinion rank for the brand.”
ZOE’s excellent result builds on its impressive performance in the 2015 Auto Express Driver Power Survey where it was ranked fifth overall and the number two supermini. In the 2016 survey, it has improved in seven of the ten Driver Power judging categories.
Representing the thoughts of Renault ZOE drivers who responded to the survey, one owner said: “It is cheap to run, comfortable, quiet and very nippy. Quality of build is excellent and the car has a full range of accessories. It is a joy to drive.”
Commenting on the Kadjar in their response to the Auto Express Driver Power survey, one satisfied owner, said: “I absolutely love it – it’s an absolute pleasure to drive. Being disabled, I had lost my independence and freedom, with this car, I have got it all back – and some!”
Since it arrived in the UK in September 2015, the Kadjar has strengthened Renault’s presence in the crossover market – building on the success of its compact crossover sibling, Captur. Its combination of striking design, efficient powertrains, spacious interior, high levels of standard specification, best-in-class residual values and five-star Euro NCAP rating have proved a hit with British car buyers.

  • First category win for Dacia in the annual awards
  • Logan MCV highest rated family car in terms of Reliability, Running Costs, Practicality, and In-Car Technology
  • The UK’s most affordable estate car is priced from £6,995 on the road
The Dacia Logan MCV has scooped the Gold award in the fiercely competitive Family Car category in the Auto Express Driver Power 2016 Awards.
It is the first category win for Dacia in the awards and the UK’s most affordable estate car took the prized number one spot after owners praised it in their responses to the leading automotive customer satisfaction study. In total, almost 50,000 car owners took part in this year’s Auto Express Driver Power survey with 183 models produced by 32 makes judged across 10 categories.
Complementing the success of the Logan MCV in the ownership survey, the Dacia Sandero – the UK’s most affordable car – finished a strong seventh in the equally hard fought Supermini category.
On the Logan MCV’s win, Brian Walters, Director, Research and Insights at Driver Power, said: “This is a fantastic showing by the Logan MCV, being the highest rated family car in four of the 10 Driver Power judging categories: Reliability, Running Costs, Practicality, and In-Car Technology; and also amongst the top five family cars for Build Quality; Ease of Driving; Road Handling; Ride Quality; and Performance.”
Walters continued: “Nearly one-half of Driver Power respondents indicate that Reliability is the single most important of the 10 judging categories. The Logan MCV’s segment leading ratings for Reliability is a tremendous achievement for Dacia.”
Louise O’Sullivan, Head of Dacia UK said: “We are delighted that the Logan MCV has proved unbeatable in such a competitive category and given us our first outright segment win in the Driver Power awards. The owner feedback upon which this win is founded proves beyond doubt that Dacia is not only delivering class-leading affordability in its vehicles but also an ownership experience that is highly rewarding. With Dacia, drivers enjoy a no-nonsense and highly appealing combination of value and quality.”
The category win follows Dacia’s previous success in the Auto Express Driver Power 2015 Awards, the ‘shockingly affordable’ brand being rated the fifth best manufacturer in the UK car industry. Since the brand’s launch in the UK in 2013, the manufacturer and its vehicles have won numerous awards.
Appealing to cost-conscious drivers who have a small budget but a need for a large amount of space, the versatile Logan MCV is available in four trim levels including the new Ambiance Prime special edition and comes with a choice of three engines, including a diesel option that returns up to 80.7mpg (NEDC combined). The Logan MCV is priced from £6,995 OTR.
In the ten years since relaunching in Europe, Dacia has sold more than 3,500,000 vehicles in Europe and the Mediterranean basin. In the UK in 2015, Dacia sold 26,228 vehicles, an increase of 10 per cent compared to 2014. Over 74,000 Dacia models have been sold in the UK since its launch in January 2013.

Next generation of vehicle interior experience previewed with the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®

Next generation of vehicle interior experience previewed with the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®

  • Next generation of vehicle interior experience previewed with the new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®
  • More than 2.2 million people drive a PEUGEOT model with the current generation i-Cockpit®
  • The new design introduces total sensory stimulation for an enhanced driving experience
PEUGEOT is today revealing its vision of tomorrow’s driving environment with the next generation of its innovative and hugely popular i-Cockpit®. Technological advances have enabled improved comfort and safety with advanced sensory engagement for drivers and passengers of the next generation of PEUGEOT models.
The exclusive preview showcases the brand’s new interior design direction for future models, with advanced ergonomics, head-up digital instrument displays and interactive touchscreen technology all designed to enhance the driving experience.
The new i-Cockpit® will feature on the next generation of PEUGEOT models following the highly successful launch of the concept in 2012. In the past four years, it has been used on the brand’s three best-selling models, including the 208, which was renewed and re-energised last year, the 2008 SUV, with the latest version revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and the 308, PEUGEOT’s overall best-selling model.
The new design retains all of the existing features and benefits that the 2.2 million global users of the current generation of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, fitted on PEUGEOT 208, 2008 and 308 models, have come to know and love. Following intensive studies by PEUGEOT – with customers across Europe and China agreeing that driving a PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® vehicle is a rewarding, stimulating experience – engineers and designers were able to make a number of improvements to intensify the experience.
Using a full scale reproduction of the front passenger compartment, PEUGEOT engineers and designers were able to produce and develop the new i-Cockpit® design in a genuine setting, refining the design and features from the perspective of the drivers and passengers of future models.
Following feedback of current PEUGEOT users, engineers started with the steering wheel. It’s re-design will provide driver’s with an even greater field of vision and more leg space for additional comfort. The wheel itself is now even more compact and offers more agility and manoeuvrability with improved driving sensation.
Driver’s arms are now closer when holding the steering wheel, reducing the breadth of movement required during manoeuvres, thus making the car more responsive and agile for the driver, with an improved, more relaxed driving position.
Building on the elevated instrument cluster of the current generation i-Cockpit®, PEUGEOT engineers developed a new head-up instrumentation display, with a 12.3’’ high-resolution digital screen taking pride of place on the dashboard. Positioned in the driver’s line of sight, the large screen clearly displays all critical information to drivers within the field of view, enabling more information to be read easier and quicker. This removes the need for drivers to look away from the road, enhancing driving safety.
PEUGEOT designers have taken full advantage of a new 12.3’’ screen, developing bespoke futuristic graphics for drivers and passengers, further enhancing their ‘in-cabin’ experience. The display is fully customisable with each configuration heightened with animations and transitions.
Passengers will also note the new tablet-like 8’’ touchscreen in the centre of the instrument panel, which has been improved over the current in car infotainment system. New interactive technology has increased responsiveness and made it simpler to use.
The next generation i-Cockpit® will also enjoy features including 3D navigation, available on both of the information screens, with real-time traffic information from Tom Tom Traffic. Connected to voice recognition and commands enables hands-free device control, with useful features like automatic text message management reading, drafting and sending messages hands free. The central screen also features Apple CarPlay™, Mirrorlink® and Android Auto technologies.
All of the new technology and features are set in a new centre console, which has been designed to be elegant yet practical. Indeed, all driver and passenger senses will be engaged by the new i-Cockpit®.
Those sat behind the new streamlined interior will note the lack of buttons, choice of high-grade materials and premium build quality. The result is improved driving pleasure, agility and driver concentration.
The design is visually appealing, with the experience intensified through lighting and an inner chromatic atmosphere as well as the digital elements on both of the infotainment screens. To the touch, occupants will also notice the seats offering multipoint massages, the enhanced build quality of the dashboard and high quality material choices that surround them.
Accompanying the visual and tactile element, musical atmospheric settings provide an audible experience like no other, while the inbuilt fragrance diffuser provides the final sensory stimulation for occupants.
Almost all of these senses can be tailored to occupant taste, with two atmospheric settings offered as standard; ‘Boost’, for dynamic driving, and ‘Relax’, for a calmer driving experience. Both settings are completely customisable, making it possible to make on-board experiences of drivers and passengers unique, engaging and unforgettable all thanks to Peugeot’s new i-Cockpit®.

  • Fastest selling Land Rover ever, Range Rover Evoque surpasses 520,000 sales globally since 2011
Land Rover is introducing an exclusive Special Edition of its fastest selling model, the Range Rover Evoque. As part of a package of enhancements to the original luxury compact SUV, the striking ‘Ember’ edition features a bold red and black theme boosting its appeal.
The new 2017 model year Range Rover Evoque also offers next-generation InControl Touch Pro infotainment across the range, providing a 10.2-inch tablet-style pinch and zoom touchscreen control and a customisable home screen to ensure customers’ favourite apps are always at their fingertips.
The Range Rover Evoque, which established its own sector in 2011, has surpassed 520,000 sales globally when it re-wrote the motoring rule books and has amassed 182 international awards.
Ember Special Edition
The red and black themed ‘Ember’ Special Edition builds on the attributes of the Range Rover Evoque HSE Dynamic with striking exterior and interior details. A distinctive Firenze Red roof contrasts with the Santorini Black body colour and is complemented by matching exterior design elements, including the front and rear tow eye covers.
Phil Simmons, Land Rover’s Studio Director for Exterior Design Realisation said: “We wanted to give the Range Rover Evoque Ember Special Edition a sporty feel; contrasting the intensity of the Firenze Red with Santorini Black really shows off the Evoque’s stand-out proportions.”
The addition of unique ‘EVOQUE’ tailgate badging in black, with a silver surround, and Narvik Black ‘RANGE ROVER’ lettering on the bonnet gives the Special Edition further definition.
Black Pack elements including Satin Black 20-inch alloy wheels, Dynamic black exhaust finishers, Dynamic Narvik Black grille and darkened front and rear lights give the Ember a more purposeful appearance.
The ‘Ember’ theme continues inside, with Ebony Black seats sporting a contrasting Pimento Red stitch, complemented by black and red premium carpet mats and Gloss Black trim finishes.
The Range Rover Evoque Ember will be available to order for a limited three-month period this summer with deliveries expected from September and prices starting from £47,200 on the road.
New Innovative All Terrain Technology
‘Low Traction Launch’ further cements Range Rover Evoque’s outstanding all-terrain capability. This new feature is a manually selectable driver mode that aims to deliver the optimum pull-a-way/launch on a low friction surface or terrain. It controls the amount of torque that the driver can apply, thus preventing wheel spin and maximising the potential driving force that can be achieved given the conditions.
InControl Touch Pro: Intuitive technology
The new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system optimises in-car connectivity by providing faster responses and more intuitive operation. Introduced from launch on the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, this now becomes available from 2017 model year and is standard for HSE Dynamic, HSE Dynamic Lux and Autobiography
The touchscreen behaves like a smartphone or tablet with swipe, pan and pinch to zoom controls and provides a clearer 21:9 super-wide format with 1280×542 pixel resolution – an 80 per cent increase over the Evoque’s standard eight-inch touchscreen.
Using the Land Rover Route Planner smartphone app, destinations can be pre-planned and synced to the vehicle ready for easy selection. Touch Pro also offers door-to-door navigation even after parking handing over to the Route Planner phone app to display public transport and pedestrian directions to the final destination.
In Control Touch Pro can share customers’ ETA with friends and family. If the driver is running later than expected, Touch Pro can automatically keep them informed by sending updates via SMS.
Additional features include high definition 3D maps and a bird’s eye view surround camera system allowing drivers to see the vehicle from above, ideal for negotiating narrow streets or tight parking spaces.
Specification enhancements to the Range Rover Evoque SE Tech sees the addition of 12-way powered seats and Automatic High Beam Assist with pricing starting at £33,000. For HSE Dynamic and above trim levels, enhancements include: InControl Touch Pro with 10.2 inch screen, InControl Connect including wifi, InControl Apps and Remote, and All Terrain Progress Control (Automatic only) with pricing starting from £41,400.
Graphite Design Pack
A new Graphite Design Pack enhances the exterior of Range Rover Evoque Autobiography derivatives with a host of subtle design changes. Unique 20-inch alloy wheels in Satin Technical Grey are complemented by the Dynamic grille in Narvik Black with a Satin Dorchester Grey Surround, while the tow eye outer covers front and rear sport the same grey tone. A black contrast roof, bonnet and tailgate lettering, darkened front and rear lights, Dynamic black exhaust finishers and black detailing on the door mirror caps, bonnet louvres, foglight surrounds, fender vents and tailgate finisher complete the look. The Graphite Design Pack will retail for £2,125 in the UK.
Customers will also be able to choose from a wider palette of exterior body colours than before. The addition of Aruba, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Silicon Silver premium metallic paint finishes takes the total number of colour options to 18.

MG Auto Express Driver Power customer satisfaction survey.

MG Motor UK has once again proven its place on the road after motorists ranked both the MG3 and MG6 within the top five in their respective vehicle segments in this year’s Auto Express Driver Power customer satisfaction survey.
Drivers’ voting placed the super-fun MG3 fifth in the supermini segment, demonstrating that this fantastic car is deservedly up there with others in its class. The MG6 swept up a bronze award in the family car segment for a second year in a row. Retaining its reputation for road handling, the medium-sized fastback also moved up two places from last year to finish second amongst all models in the road handling judging category.
In both 2014 and 2015, the MG3, MG6 and MG as a whole scooped awards for best handling, third best manufacturer, tenth best car to own and this year has confirmed that British motorists are still just as impressed with the models.
Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG, said: “We are thrilled to see that once again our customers have praised MG in the Driver Power survey.
“The backing from our customers is greatly appreciated and when they place us so highly in a prestigious survey like this, it shows that the brand is continuing to go from strength to strength. In June we will be launching MG’s first SUV, so we are very much hoping to break into other categories with this new model.”
The Driver Power survey, from the UK’s biggest selling weekly automotive magazine Auto Express, asks the public a number of questions about their car. This year, nearly 50,000 people responded, providing feedback on reliability through to practicality.

Steve Moody, Editor of Fleet World, commented: “ŠKODA’s excellent new Superb makes a great case for itself. Understated and stylish, it’s spacious enough to shame much larger cars, with equipment levels to match.
“ŠKODA also scores highly on fuel efficiency, with the 95g/km Greenline III diesel available in most trim levels, including fleet-focused SE Business versions. It makes it hard to argue for any other winner in this sector.”
Speaking after the win, Henry Williams, Head of Fleet for ŠKODA UK said: “Being named ‘Best Upper Medium Car’ in this year’s Fleet World Honours is testament to the Superb’s compelling residual values, class-leading space, eye-catching design and sophisticated technology. The success of the ŠKODA Superb is the perfect showcase for the brand’s continued growth in the fleet sector.”
Launched in the UK in September 2015, the new Superb has picked up five awards this year alone, including the What Car? title for Best Estate Car.
